Instructions for the Firmware Upgrade for the MX1200
We recommend that you run the firmware upgrade with an Ethernet connection if possible. But if you cannot – please do make sure that the laptop or tablet you are using has full power or connected directly to a power source. Any interruptions in the firmware upgrade process can cause irreputable harm to the MX1200.
Download the update firmware file and make note of the location on your computer.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the MX1200 and with the power on, reset the unit back to default factory settings by putting a pin into the reset hole and pushing for 1-2 seconds. The WPS button will turn blue and the LEDS will start to flash and go out. Wait for the two red lights that designate Too close and Too far on each end to start flashing red simultaneously.
- Log into the unit by opening a browser and putting SetupExtender.net in the address bar.
- This will bring up the blue Motorola Login Screen and prompt you for the password of motorola.
- Click on System at the top and then click on System Information. On this page, under the blue heading System info, make note of the Firmware Version your MX1200 is currently using. Most likely it is v1.2.9.
- Click on Firmware upgrade at the top, and on the line Select File, browse to the location of where you downloaded the new firmware file (MX1200-1.3.2.img or MX1200-1.3.2-E.img) and select it. Since we had you reset the unit back to factory settings in Step 1, you can ignore the box marked Clear Configuration.
- Click on Upload and Install.
IMPORTANT: Wait for the process to finish. It is important that there are no interruptions during the upgrade process as any interruptions can cause harm to the unit. - When the upgrade process is done, the blue Motorola login screen will pop up on your computer screen automatically. Please log in with the password motorola and go to system info and check that the firmware version is 1.3.2 which indicates SUCCESS on the upgrade process.
- Now you will need to follow the instructions to set up the extender with your router again.
