Setup & Installation: DMZ & Port Forwarding
- Setting up DMZ & Port Forwarding on the MR1900
- DMZ essentially allows a selected computer or device to bypass the firewall features on a router or gateway to allows it unrestricted access to the internet.
- Open a browser (Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc.) on your device.
- In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1. The page will say MR1900.
- The username is admin and the password is motorola.
- Click on Network > Firewall > DMZ.
- Click to Enable the DMZ.
- Choose the local IP address that should be exposed to the internet.
- Creating a static DHCP association for the host address is recommended.
- Enter the Host IPv4 address.
- Port Forwarding
- Port forwarding opens up ports on the router to deliver traffic from the internet directly to LAN devices like game consoles, security cameras, web servers, etc. Ordinarily, the router’s NAT firewall would block this traffic.
- Before we begin, please have ready the IP address of the LAN device you are port forwarding to, and the port numbers that you need to be opened in the router. You will also need a device with a browser to be connected to the router, either through Ethernet cable or WiFi.
- Open a browser (Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc.) on your device.
- In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1. The page will say MR1900.
- The username is admin and the password is motorola.
- Click on Network > Firewall > Port Forwarding
- Click on the + button on the right. Edit the rule name if necessary.
- Keep Source Zone as WAN and Source Destination as LAN.
- For Source IP, if you want a single Internet IP address to access your LAN network, select the checkbox and type in that WAN IP address. Only this WAN IP address will be allowed access to your LAN network. If the Source IP Address field is not selected the router will allow any device (IP Address) on the WAN to access your LAN network device.
- Choose the Destination Device from the list of connected devices. If the device you are port forwarding to is not currently connected, its IP Address can be manually entered.
- For Destination IP Address, enter the IP address of the device you are port forwarding to.
- For Public Port, enter the port number that will be used by WAN devices to access your LAN network through the router. If it is a range, then you can click on Port Range, and then enter the port numbers that will be used by WAN devices to access your LAN network through the router.
- For Protocol, select the protocol(s) the router will pass from WAN to LAN. TCP only, UDP only or Both. Select Both if you are unsure.
- The MR1900 has the ability to use different ports on the WAN and LAN. The Local Port Range will be the port(s) used on the LAN. (Example: WAN port can be set to 8080 while LAN port is set to 9090). To use the same port number(s) on both, enter the port numbers of the Public Port(s). To use different port number(s) enter different numbers.
- Note: The port range must be the same size for the Public and Local port ranges.
- For this procedure, you do not need to touch the Enable Hairpin function.
- Click Save.
- Repeat steps 7-17 for all the ports and port ranges you need the router to forward to your LAN When you are done, turn off the router and the device you are port forwarding to. Then turn on the router, and when the lights stabilize, turn on the other device.
