Connecting the MT8733

Alternate Ways to Connect Your Coax Cable

Ensuring a proper coaxial cable connection is crucial for your MT8733 to access cable Internet service. Here are the primary methods to establish this connection:

  1. Using an Active Coaxial Cable:
    • Connect the loose end of an available active coaxial cable from your cable service provider to the Coax jack on your cable modem.
  2. Connecting to an Active Coax Jack in Your Wall:
    • If there’s an active coax jack available in your wall, connect a coaxial cable between that jack and the Coax jack on your cable modem.
  3. Utilizing an Active Cable from Your Television:
    • If you wish to retain cable TV service on your television set, use an active cable connected to the TV. Use a coaxial splitter and two appropriate cables to split the signal. Ensure the splitter supports frequencies between 5 - 1000 MHz, or up to 1675 MHz if using MoCA.

Connecting Devices to Your Cable Modem/Router

You can connect a variety of devices to your MT8733 cable modem/router, including:

  • Computers
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Game consoles
  • Security cameras
  • Streaming media devices (e.g., Roku, Chromecast, AppleTV)
  • Smart TVs
  • Other devices

Devices can be connected either via:

  • Ethernet Cable (Wired Connection): Typically faster and more reliable. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the device’s Ethernet jack and the other end to any LAN jack on the cable modem (up to four devices supported).
  • WiFi (Wireless Connection): Ideal for devices without Ethernet ports or for locations where wired connections are impractical.

Connecting a Device via Ethernet

To establish an Ethernet connection:

  1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet jack on your device.
  2. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into any LAN jack on the MT8733 cable modem/router.
  3. You can connect up to four devices using the LAN jacks provided.

Note: LAN4 on the MT8733 is a 2.5GE port.

Connecting a Smartphone, Tablet, or Other Wireless Device via Wireless

To connect wirelessly:

  1. Enter the wireless network name (SSID) and password of your MT8733 into each client device you wish to connect.
    • If using default settings, find the SSID and password on a label located on the bottom of your cable modem/router.
    • If you've changed the network settings, use your updated credentials.
  2. Ensure band steering is enabled (default setting). If disabled, specify separate network names and passwords for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
  3. To connect to a Guest Network, use the specific Network Name and Password designated for guest access.
  4. Ensure that the wireless connection is turned on in the settings of your client devices.

By following these steps, you can successfully connect and configure devices to your MT8733 cable modem/router either via Ethernet for reliable speeds or wirelessly for convenient connectivity throughout your home.
