Note: This article refers to Motorola cable/modems, also known as gateways, with model numbers starting with "MG."
Follow these steps to change the login username and password for your gateway:
- Open a Web Browser:
- On a computer connected to your gateway, open a web browser.
- Access the Configuration Manager:
- Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the browser's address bar.
- This will direct you to the login screen for the configuration manager of your gateway.
- Log In Using Default Credentials:
- Locate the default login information printed on the bottom label of your device.
- Username: admin
- Password:
- For models MG7310, MG7315, MG7540, MG7550, MG7700, MT7711: motorola
- For models MG8702, MG8725, MT8733: the unique password is printed on the bottom label of the device
- Change the Username and Password:
- Once logged in, select Advanced at the top of the screen, and then Status and Security.
- Follow the prompts to enter and confirm your new login details.
By following these steps, you can successfully change the login username and password for your gateway.
- Enter Current Credentials:
- Input your current username and password.
- Set New Username and Password:
- Enter your desired new username.
- Enter your new password twice to confirm it.
- Character Limits and Restrictions:
- Both the username and password can be up to 15 characters long.
- You can use lower-case letters (a-z), upper-case letters (A-Z), and numbers (0-9).
- Special characters are not allowed.
- Save Changes:
- Click "Save" to apply and save your new username and password.
By following these instructions, you will successfully update your gateway's login information.
Caution:
- After changing the username and password, ensure you remember the new credentials.
- If you forget the new username and password, you will be unable to log into the modem.
- To recover access, you must reset the gateway to factory defaults.
- Resetting to factory defaults will erase all changes you have made to the gateway settings.
