If you recently upgraded to the MotoSync+ app (for an upgrade request please complete this form here) and are setting up your MG8702 gateway, you might see an error message such as:
“Make sure that you're connected to your router’s Primary WiFi network.”
This can happen if you’re connected to the wrong network ... often one created in the older MotoSync Legacy app.
📶 Understanding Legacy Networks
In the old MotoSync Legacy app, you had the option to create a second network. Some users renamed this network to include terms like “2.4GHz” or “5GHz.” However, this second network was actually a Guest (Isolated) Network -- NOT a dedicated 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band.
Even if you renamed it, this network uses both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands by default and remains separate from your primary home WiFi network.
🔍 Why the Error Appears
If you try to set up your MG8702 in the new MotoSync+ app while connected to that old guest network, you’ll see the “Make sure you're connected to Router WiFi network” error. To fix this:
- Disconnect from the guest or secondary network (the one you renamed as “2.4” or “5GHz” -- if it's the case).
- Reconnect to your router’s primary WiFi network.
📡 Other Possible Causes
You may also encounter this issue if you’re connected to a WiFi extender instead of your MG8702 gateway ... even if the network name is similar. Make sure you’re connected directly to your main gateway’s WiFi signal before attempting setup again.
Another common cause is using a VPN. If a VPN is active, the app may not detect your router correctly and will show the same “Primary WiFi” error. Please disable your VPN before setting up MotoSync+.
✅ Solution Checklist
- Connect to your router’s primary WiFi network.
- Make sure you have the latest version of the MotoSync+ app installed.
- Ensure that any VPN is disabled during setup.
- Try setup again once connected properly.
Following these steps should allow you to successfully complete the MotoSync+ setup process.
